What is the LIFE Project?

ANSWER

The LIFE Project is a health and lifestyle survey, seeking to understand risk factors for cancer diabetes and cardiovascular diseases (hypertension, health disease, stroke, cholesterol, etc.)

Who can be a part of the study?

ANSWER

Males and non-pregnant females between the ages of 30 and 70 years, who are not planning to migrate from Jamaica within the next 3 years, with at least a grade 7 comprehension level.

What will I need to do to be a part of the study?

ANSWER

Complete a questionnaire about your health and lifestyle practices (demographic & social status, nutrition, health history, environmental exposure, etc.). Participate in body measurements: weigh, height, blood pressure, neck, arm, waist, and hip circumferences; Provide a sample of your blood, urine, saliva, and nail clipping for laboratory test.

How long with the questionnaire / interview take?

ANSWER

The interview can be completed in two 1 hour settings.

How long after the questionnaire will samples be collected?

ANSWER

Usually within a month.

Where will the blood test be done?

ANSWER

A phlebotomist and research nurse equip with personal protective equipment (PPE) will visit you at your home to collect the samples and return your results.

Will I get a copy of my results?

ANSWER

Yes, a copy of your results can be provided to you via email or by mail

How will my information be protected?

ANSWER

Your information will be treated with the highest level of confidentiality. Data will be collected in password protected tablets, that safeguard against theft. Data will be deidentified, meaning that participants’ name, address or other form of identification will not be included in the storing of the data.

What will I get if I participate in the study?

ANSWER

Free lab test on your blood, urine and nail clippings, phone credit and branded project bag

When will I get my tokens?

ANSWER

You should receive your tokens within a week after completion of your questionnaire and sample collection.
